Biography

Hello! My name is Ms. Hunt. I have a strong passion for history, social studies education, and being a guiding force in the lives of teenagers. I have a love for history and education. In high school, I spent a summer chaperoning a history day camp at our local county history museum. I loved the interactions I had with the children and inspiring a passion for history within them at a young age. During the school year, I would spend my homeroom in the Social Studies Department office working on projects for the department. I had a lot of practice being a teacher early on in my life!  I received my undergraduate degree in history from University of Georgia in 2018. During my time at UGA, I perfected the skills of being a historian, which I long to share with future generations of learners.

I had wanted to get my teaching certification immediately after graduation, but needed to work for a while to save for the tuition. During this time, I worked an Account Manager for Proliant, a payroll software company in Atlanta. One of my main job duties was teaching clients how to use payroll software. The teaching aspect of this job increased my yearning to start my career in education. I began my Masters of Arts in Teaching - Social Studies Education at Georgia State University last spring. During this time, I’ve received consistently high marks in all of my courses through a dedication to learning the craft of teaching. My program has prepared me to teach students from diverse backgrounds to critically examine content to develop a complex understanding of history.

Student teaching during the time of COVID-19 has definitely been an exciting and challenging experience. My flexibility and experience working with clients online and in person at Proliant and now in the classroom has helped me maintain a positive learning atmosphere for my students. I love working closely with my students and coming up with new ways to keep them excited to learn and connected to the content, especially within the restricted school environment that resulted from COVID-19.

My favorite part about student teaching is working one-on-one with students and guiding them to better learn and understand the content! The connections I’ve created with my students through these interactions have led to greater participation and involvement within our lessons. While at my student teaching placement, I spent my free-time getting involved in extra-curricular activities at the school, and I really look forward to being involved in those activities as a teacher. I am especially interested in coaching Mock Trial, which I did in high school and/or becoming involved in the Social Studies Honors Society, Rho Kappa, of which I was a member.
